Montreal, Quebec, January 10, 2008 – LMS Medical Systems (“LMS”), the developer of the
CALM® clinical information system and risk management software for obstetrics, and OPMEDIC
GROUP INC. (“OPMEDIC GROUP”) (TSX: OMG), which operates a network of private clinics in
the province of Quebec, are pleased to announce that they entered into an agreement pursuant
to which OPMEDIC GROUP, through its division PROCREA Cliniques (“PROCREA”) will offer the
CALM Shoulder Screen test to pregnant women.
While LMS will continue to market its tools to the public sector hospitals in Quebec, PROCREA
will have the exclusive use of the CALM Shoulder Screen in the Quebec private clinic sector
PROCREA will begin to offer this test for a fee in the coming days.
CALM Shoulder Screen is the only test available on the market to assess the risk of injury from
shoulder dystocia, an obstetrical complication occurring when the baby’s shoulder gets stuck
behind the mother’s pubic bone during childbirth. Potential injuries to the baby include brachial
plexus impairment, brain damage and sometimes death.
PROCREA will introduce the test to over 300 physicians involved in childbirth across the province
of Quebec. Any pregnant woman in the province may consult her own physician who will do an
initial assessment, referring those women who have certain risk factors associated with shoulder
dystocia to one of PROCREA’s clinics for a late ultrasound and evaluation using the CALM
Shoulder Screen. PROCREA will report the patient’s risk score for persistent injury from shoulder
dystocia to her physician. The availability of the test will enable physicians to help their patients
choose the safest possible delivery that will enable them to avoid injury to their baby.
“PROCREA provides a variety of fertility treatments and testing services to patients and also
offers diagnostic laboratory work, pre-natal screening and fetal ultrasounds. Such services enable
the physicians to counsel their patients to better understand the risks the patients may face and
the options they have to make the best decisions for their family,” said Dr. Pierre St-Michel, CEO
of OPMEDIC GROUP. “Offering CALM Shoulder Screen is consistent with OPMEDIC GROUP’s
commitment to have PROCREA remain at the forefront of clinical developments in this regard
and to use the latest screening technologies available to prevent birth complications for mothers
and newborns.”
“We are delighted that PROCREA will be offering this test across Quebec”, comments Diane
Côté, CEO of LMS. “Now all women can benefit from this cutting edge test to help prevent injury
to their newborn wherever they plan to give birth.”
